Steve’s eye is fine!

October 26, 1999 by Steve Peifer

Thanks so much for your prayers. God touched Steve’s eye and the doctor found nothing to be concerned about!

Here are the details. Steve woke up this morning with lights flashing in his right eye (not the one with the problem last Nov.). We knew this to be a warning sign of a retina tear or detachment so we notified the medical folks here at Kijabe. They got an appointment at Aga Kahn Hospital in Nairobi for 2:00 and took us in. When we were about 15 minutes from the hospital the flashes stopped.

The doctor examined Steve and found nothing “active” as she put it. But as further evidence of the Father’s care for us, several little things happened. Here in Kenya you are never quite sure of the quality of any item or service you receive. As the doctor examined Steve’s eye, she said, “You’ve had laser treatment in this eye.” Steve had only told her about his treatment on the left eye so it gave us a nice dose of confidence in the fact that this doctor did know what she was seeing in his eye! Then at the end of the appointment she gave us phone numbers for her office, her laser clinic, and her home saying that we should call her at any time of day or night if anything else happened with the eye. In a place as uncertain as Kenya, that is a real comfort. Then, after visiting with her, we found out she is the doctor who has brought laser surgery for retinal problems to Kenya–she’s the tops! God’s care is so all encompassing and so personal.

We really feel that God touched Steve’s eye and healed it as people began to pray. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And unending thanks to our gracious Father.

This particular Kenyan chronicle would not be complete without letting you know that we stopped at the grocery store on the way home. Because trips to groceries are so few and far between, whenever you leave Kijabe and go into Nairobi, you manage to squeeze in a trip to the grocery!

Blessings on all of you,

Nancy
