Busy in Africa

December 1, 1999 by Steve Peifer

Well, life has been very busy lately. But today is the first real day of break and I am enjoying it, although I am behind on laundry and a few other things…

The boys all left last Wednesday and Thursday. We had to get 2 on a 6:30 am bus on Wednesday; one on a 5:30 am bus on Thursday and the others were picked up at varying times. The last one left on Thanksgiving Day at 10:00 am, then we had 26 people for Thanksgiving Dinner at 1:00, and by 3:00 pm our guests for the conference that were staying with us began to arrive. Then, the conference started at 6:45pm that night and went until 9:30 pm last night. Whew!!

Many of you asked if we were going to have an African meal on Thanksgiving. No. We had turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, derby pie and all the other usual items. The only African part of it was washing up by hand!!! Thankfully I had help. The conference was excellent. We had a pastor from a church in London come and speak. Not a “big” name, never been to Kenya before, but such a deep and humble man of God. We found ourselves ministered to in our deepest hearts. He had lost his wife to cancer 3 years ago and we found much of what he preached about was just what we walked through with Stephen: facing the reality of our hopes not being fulfilled, but finding the purposes of God in the midst of it all. Pain and peace all mixed together. Yet another piece of our healing found 7000 miles from Stephen’s grave…

And now, some time to breathe, pull back together as a family of 4 instead of 12, and the blessed provision of a trip to the coast with another family here. The rains continue in our area! Praise God. This is actually a very green place! But please continue to pray for other parts of Kenya where no rain has fallen in months. This is short, but it’s been too long since I wrote so I wanted to drop a short line. May God bless you in a new way as we celebrate the Advent of our Lord. He is truly a huge God who never ceases to amaze us with new truths, new visions, and new perspective.

Love to you all,

Nancy
