Kids for Kids – A unique mission experience for your children’s ministry.
Why is the Kids for Kids program unique?
Through this program, the children in your local ministry will get to learn about rural Kenyan school life through unique experiences like these:
- Video tours of a local Kenyan school led by a Kenyan student (see sampler here).
- Tasting githeri, the simple meal of corn and beans that is being served in the schools.
- Getting answers to the questions that they have when the adults in the ministry post those questions in our interactive chat group.
And as your students learn about school life in Kenya, they will be able to help lend a hand to their new Kenyan friends by raising funds. Each $25 raised provides school lunches and a computer education for one Kenyan student for a year!
What is the overall mission of Kenya Kids Can?
If you haven’t heard our vision yet for partnering with local communities to raise up the future problem solvers of Kenya, be sure to check out our About Us page.
What is the goal of the Kids for Kids program?
Educating the students in your ministry about school life in Kenya to, in a small way, help them be better future leaders. And as they raise funds for our programs in Kenya, they will help us to raise up future leaders in Kenya as well.
If we participate in the Kids for Kids program, what materials do we receive?
When you sign up for the Kids for Kids program, you will receive the items listed below.
Educational items for kids
- Video tours: Five 2-3 minute videos will be provided. Each video will feature a Kenyan student giving a tour of some aspect of school (classrooms, the school yard, the KKC feeding and computer programs, etc.)
- Githeri recipe: Use our githeri recipe so your students can sample the lunch that is served in Kenya.
- Interactive chat group: A link to join a WhatsApp group will be provided so the adult leaders in your ministry can join this interactive chat group. When kids have a question, a leader can post it to the chat group and we will do our best to answer each question before the start of the next day. For example:
- Coloring pages: A set of five coloring pages will be provided for the youngest learners. As they do the coloring, they will become more familiar with scenes from Kenyan schools.
Items to facilitate the Kids for Kids program
- Collection cans: A fun way for the kids to collect funds is with our KKC collection cans. You will be able to download the wrapper for the can and order the lids with slots. You can then have kids bring in used vegetable cans to make the collection can or order used cans from us.
- Parent fliers: A flier will be provided that can be sent home with kids so their parents know a bit more about what their children are collecting funds for.
- Child cutouts: A great way to see the number of students being supported is to hang up a cutout of a boy or girl for each $25 raised. This can be particularly fun if your ministry usually does a competition between boys/girls or grade levels since there will be a visual where everyone can see the number of students each group has sponsored.
- Photos: An online folder with lots of photos will be provided. These photos can be printed or used in other ways.
- PowerPoints: Short PowerPoints that introduce Kenyan children sharing what they want to be when they grow.
- Postcards: Our “Food is for EVERYONE” postcard can be ordered to hand out.
