Michael Update

April 6, 2006 by Steve Peifer

We wanted to give you an update on Michael’s situation. The trial continued yesterday. It went very well for him again. The chief of police who signed the arrest papers was called as a witness and was forced (by the judge threatening to arrest him for perjury if he lied) to confess that he had seen the affidavit from our school saying Michael was at work the night of the incident. He further confessed that he had not carried out any investigation, but rather had jailed Michael and the others on hearsay only! Then, the defense lawyer said he didn’t feel he needed to call any witnesses since the prosecution had not come up with any evidence to prove their case. The judge announced that the decision would be made next Wednesday, April 12.

So, right now it looks like Michael will be released next Wed. But please continue to pray. Things that shouldn’t happen can still happen here. After all, Michael shouldn’t even be in jail…

Thank you, thank you for caring, for praying, for standing with Theresa and Michael in this long ordeal. God is faithful and I trust I will be emailing you next week in all caps! On Saturday we head to the coast for our annual vacation, then on the 13th Steve and JT head to the states. The rains continue here and everything is greening up and crops are being planted. God is so good!

Blessings,

Nancy
